Frozen buffalo cheese puts thawing trials on the export sourcing checklist

Cosmo Food EU Editorial

Italianfood.net reports that Fattorie Garofalo is presenting frozen buffalo dairy products as part of its international growth strategy at SIAL Paris, running from 17 to 21 October. The range includes Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO and buffalo-milk burrata, with brine-packed and individually quick frozen options. The company is targeting further expansion in the United States, Japan and Southeast Asia while developing existing European markets.

The report refers to shelf lives of up to 545 days within the frozen offering. That is a reported range claim, not a verified specification for every pack. It does not establish the usable life of a product after thawing or its suitability for a buyer’s distribution route.

Cosmo’s buyer view

Start with the intended use: a retail tub, foodservice ingredient and industrial topping can require different handling and portioning. Ask for the exact product specification, storage temperature, validated thawing instructions and post-thaw use period. Run sensory and kitchen trials under the conditions expected at the destination.

For commercial comparisons, request pack weights, pallet configuration, minimum orders, lead times and destination labelling details. Agree how temperature excursions and rejected deliveries will be documented. These checks turn a long frozen shelf-life statement into a practical sourcing decision; they do not assume that a supplier’s export plans establish local availability or agreed delivery terms.
