Citres majority investment puts vegetable-preserve capacity on buyers’ watchlists

Cosmo Food EU Editorial

FOOD/Foodweb reports that Clessidra Capital Partners Green Harvest has completed the acquisition of a 70% stake in Citres, an Italian producer of vegetable preserves. The Compri family keeps the remaining 30% and its operational responsibilities. The report describes an investment plan focused on production capacity and international expansion, with development already under way at the company’s Bovolone site in the Verona area.

Citres’ reported range includes vegetables preserved in oil, pestos and vegetable creams. These categories are relevant to importers assembling Italian grocery ranges, retailers planning antipasti assortments and foodservice buyers reviewing prepared vegetable ingredients. The ownership announcement does not establish new export allocations, prices or delivery dates for individual products.

Cosmo’s buyer view: use the development plan as a reason to update supplier discussions. Ask which recipes and pack sizes are available for the destination market, whether expansion changes order minimums, and which production windows can be confirmed in writing. Specifications should identify the vegetable mix, oil, allergens, storage conditions and remaining shelf life required on arrival.

Buyers considering a new programme should also clarify who approves labels and artwork, how batches will be traced and what happens if a delivery slips. Existing specifications and current certification documents still need their own review. Investment in a producer can support future opportunities, but it does not replace an agreed product brief, validated samples or a realistic purchasing schedule.
