Milk supply growth forecast leaves dairy buyers watching weather and delivery terms
Cosmo Food EU EditorialReported outlook. DairyReporter’s coverage of Ornua’s October Global Dairy Market Report puts expected global milk supply growth at 2.2% for 2026 and 1% for 2027. The article says milk flows have exceeded earlier expectations, while drought in Europe and the developing effects of El Niño could slow growth. It also identifies macroeconomic uncertainty. These figures describe an outlook, with weather-related effects still uncertain.
Cosmo buyer interpretation. A global volume forecast is useful context when planning cheese, milk-powder or dairy-based snack purchases. Buyers should still ask shortlisted manufacturers for product-specific capacity, lead times and allocation terms. Availability of raw milk does not establish availability of a particular finished recipe, pack size or production slot.
For international sourcing projects, compare offers using the same specification, delivery basis and quotation validity. Clarify when prices may be reviewed and what happens if an agreed shipment moves. Where a recipe depends on a particular dairy input, request a documented change-control process before accepting substitutions.
Cosmo also recommends matching contingency planning to the application: confirm that an alternative ingredient or supplier can meet the required functionality, shelf life and destination-market documentation. These purchasing checks are Cosmo’s interpretation, not conclusions or price predictions supplied by Ornua or DairyReporter.
