Hershey packaging update puts product imagery in focus for confectionery buyers

Cosmo Food EU Editorial

Reported development. ConfectioneryNews says Hershey has updated Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins wrappers with wording clarifying that the pictured carving is not present on the chocolate itself. The report describes a dismissed US legal challenge over the difference between the illustrated decoration and the product. It also makes clear that the reason for the wording change is unconfirmed, and that wider use across seasonal products is unknown.

Cosmo buyer interpretation. Packaging approval deserves the same discipline as recipe and specification approval. When sourcing seasonal chocolate, buyers should request a current production sample, the final artwork and a clear record of any decoration added only for photography. This helps identify differences before packaging is printed or stock crosses a border.

For a private-label project, agree who approves images, translations and serving suggestions, and which version of the artwork the manufacturer must use. Ask the team responsible for each destination market to review the overall presentation, including prominent images and nearby explanatory wording. Retain dated approvals alongside the product specification and confirm that later design changes receive another review.

These are Cosmo’s purchasing recommendations. The source does not establish new labeling requirements for other markets or products.
