GranTerre expands UK distribution with Pimpernel Wharf acquisition

Cosmo Food EU Editorial

Foodweb reports that GranTerre, through its subsidiary Caseifici GranTerre, has acquired 100% of UK distributor Pimpernel Wharf. Based in Reigate, Surrey, the business serves retail, food manufacturing and foodservice customers. The report puts its annual turnover at approximately £16.9 million and identifies Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano as important parts of its product portfolio.

Buyer interpretation: for businesses sourcing Italian cheeses in the UK, the development is an opportunity to review the available distribution options. An acquisition announcement can help identify a route to market, but purchasing teams should confirm the range, pack formats and ordering arrangements relevant to their own project.

Start with a defined product brief. Specify the cheese required, intended use, portion or pack size, order quantity and delivery location. Request current product documentation and agree how storage requirements, shelf life and delivery scheduling will be handled. Comparing suppliers against the same brief makes it easier to distinguish product differences from differences in service.

For private label or foodservice applications, also clarify which customization services are actually available. Ask about specifications, packaging approval and commercial quantities before building a launch plan around a particular distributor. These are buyer considerations, rather than service commitments established by the acquisition report.
