Buyer Insight: Planning a Private-Label Protein Product With Kosher Requirements

OU Kosher describes the role of contract manufacturers and ingredient suppliers in retailer protein ranges. Its practical point is that a finished SKU’s kosher status needs verification across the inputs and the production operation.

For a private-label brief, build a shared question sheet before comparing quotations. A hypothetical protein snack project might list the intended format, pack size, launch country, target order quantity and required shelf life. Name who answers each question and record whether the answer concerns an available product or a proposed development.

Keep three workstreams visible: the commercial quotation, the technical specification and any certification requirement requested by the buyer. A low unit price should not stand in for a completed specification, and a specification should not answer a certification question by implication. Where a requirement is unresolved, mark it as a decision still to be made before packaging approval.

This approach can give purchasing, development and the certifier a clearer discussion agenda; it does not determine any product’s kosher status.
