Italian EVO quotations fall as buyers reassess olive oil sourcing
Cosmo Food EU EditorialItalian extra virgin olive oil quotations have fallen 47% over the past year, according to Areté analysis reported by EFA News on 9 October. The report links easing prices to replenished stocks and cites a preliminary Spanish production estimate of 1.6 million tonnes for 2026/27. Weather remains an uncertainty, so the estimate should not be treated as a completed harvest.
Cosmo's buyer interpretation: the immediate commercial task is to obtain comparable offers rather than assume that every supplier or finished product will follow the headline movement. Define the requested origin, oil grade, sensory profile, order quantity and delivery point before asking suppliers to update their prices. Compare packaging, filling, freight and payment terms separately where possible, so differences between quotations are easier to understand.
For private label projects, consider the purchasing calendar alongside the product brief. A launch may require samples, packaging approval and production booking before the first delivery. Ask how long a quotation remains valid and which conditions can trigger a revision. Procurement teams can also request documentation connecting origin claims with the oil supplied for the specific order. This helps keep a cost review aligned with the intended product and the expectations of the destination market.
